Teaching reading can be exciting, but it can also be tedious.  Over the years, I have learned that there isn't one way to teach reading and not all readers will learn this important skill the same way.  There are many resources out there, and I have managed to find a few that I found valuable in teaching our girls and children that I have tutored. 

Audible - Having an Audible account has been great for us.  Our new library doesn't carry as many audiobooks, and I don't have the read aloud stamina that I once had so Audible has come in handy.  We are currently listening to Anne of Green Gables.  Did you know that it is approximately a ten hour book?  Currently, I couldn't imagine reading Anne aloud to the girls, but I certainly do enjoy listening it to it.  We are able to listen to our books on the go if needed, but we often listen to books during lunch and evening downtime. Listening to stories being read aloud helps build vocabulary skills and also allows the listener to be introduced to stories that may be above their reading level.  Check out The Read-Aloud Handbook by Jim Trealease to learn more about the importance of reading aloud.

These are few resources that we have used or currently use.  Nearly all are free with the exception of Audible  which offers a free 30 day trial.
