Recycling in a Small Space

"Recycle, Reduce, Reuse" is the theme song that ran through my mind often when my girls were younger.  It was the catalyst that propelled me to be a bit more green. My First Mom Getaway (Heading to the 2:1 Conference)

I have a confession.  I have never spent more than a day away from my children not even when I attended Hearts at Home.  No overnight trips.  No extended girls weekend.  Nope, none of that.  I wondered if I this was a rarity since many of my friends don't mind getting away sans children.  I was recently reminded that there are other moms who are just like me, moms who haven't found a reason or two to head out alone for more than a day.  I have finally found my reason, and it's the 2:1 Conference which will be held in Ohio this year.

Learning with Audio Dramas from Heirloom Audio Productions

It's been nearly four years since we delved into using audio books regularly in homeschool, and now that we have become accustomed we are broadening our listening pleasures by including audio dramas too. An audio drama is different than an audio book because it is more like theatre. Audio dramas have actors for each of the characters along with sounds that bring the story to life. For instance, if a horse is mentioned then you will hear the sounds of its hooves against the dirt in the background.

Our tour guide, weather reporter Kelly Cox,  shared with us that Oprah formerly worked there in her early years.  I was shocked to find out that the girls were maybe the only two children who knew or recognized Oprah.  Since the station is a CBS affiliate, they recognized most of the posters hanging like The Good Wife and Person of Interest because those were two of my favorite shows.  At some point we had even started watching Madame Secretary together as if it was family show.  I will admit it did lead to lots of interesting conversations.
