February Homeschool Reflections
I know February is the shortest month, but seriously it went by so fast! As I reflect on February, I am noticing that for us it was really mild. We weren't overscheduled. We continued to work diligently for the most part. February also showed promise with the new curriculum we received to review.
Academics:
Over the past few weeks, I have shared in various placesthe love our youngest has found in Logic of English Essentials. This is our fourth week, and she is still enjoying it. I am so grateful for this program. There will be a review on the blog in a few weeks. For our oldest, I have found a pattern that works well for math. We primarily use Christian Light 500 and while she does well with quite a few math concepts she still has her weaknesses. She is now reviewing Math U See Zeta, and we are working through some Step By Step Problem Solving Grade 5. I picked it up a local educator store when they put a lot of workbooks on clearance. This change is working well for her because it gets her out of routine which forces her to think more critically.
Life Skills:
The girls wrote the most letters to friends last month. They enjoy writing, and I believe this is a great life skill for them to have for their future. They also appreciate getting letters in the mail from their friends. :)
Just for Fun:
We had the opportunity to go behind the scenes at the Aquarium Restaurant last month. This was a first for us, and we all enjoyed it. The youngest and I even touched a starfish.
As a family, we were able to take Dad along to the Hatch Show Print where he was able to make some prints too. He made one in honor of our one year anniversary here and one for our upcoming 13 year marriage anniversary. Visiting Hatch Show Print was just as fun on family day as it was when we went on the tour. We followed up our visit with delicious nachos from the local restaurant, Bajo Sexto, inside of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
