This is me ...

My name is Latonya.

I am an first-generation African-American homeschool mom.

I reside in the Nashville area with my husband, two daughters, and a forever pup.

I am a wife to a really great guy. We married young and are still hanging on to each other.

I have been given the privilege to teach two awesome girls at home.  Our girls are currently in middle school and late elementary, but our days are still filled with fun activities and outings. I actually love homeschooling, and the chance to be such a dynamic force in our girls' lives.

My Life Outside of Homeschooling:

Outside of caring for my family, I am an entrepreneur.  Of course, I run this blog (learn more about the site on the Start Here page) and have worked with many different brands like Dover Publications, Notgrass Company, DaySpring, and Dymo. Interested in working together?  Connect with me at

I am a freelance writer with work published other places such as Focus on the Family and PureFlix Insider.  Check out my growing list of work on my Places I Write page. Would you like for me to write for your publication?  Email me at I also write reading comprehension guides for elementary and middle school learners.

I love writing, but I also really enjoy creating tangible art.  I teach online art classes to other homeschooling children.

A Bit About Joy in the Ordinary:

Joy in the Ordinary isn't only a homeschooling blog, but it is a place where you can get practical tips for making the most out the life that you have been gifted whether you are solely homeschooling, not homeschooling, working from home, or outside the home.  So often we find ourselves searching for any and everything when all we need is right in front of us.  This doesn't mean everything is perfect or that pain will not be in the equation, but it does mean that we can choose joy, happiness, and love regardless of the situation.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by my place! I look forward to getting to know you!
